Read through Epilogue. Use the words in bold to fill in the blanks.

We’ve got to stick together , that’s all I know. We all drive each other crazy at times, but I don’t want

to end up here alone , like the Hermit. Then this really would be Hell. Humans do such terrible things to each other that sometimes my brain tells me they must be evil. But my heart still isn’t convinced. I just hope we can survive . P.284

Hell, terrible, together, survive, evil, convinced, alone

Read through Chapter 22. Use the words in bold to fill in the blanks.

‘Well, we were pretty desprate. We knew you’d be sitting there, in a lot of danger , waiting for a signal that wasn’t going to come. We got close to panic at that point, I guess. We had two choices – to go ahead with the cattle and hope you’d be able to react in time, or to call it off. But we couldn’t call it off without telling you – that would have left you in an impossible situation. That was a weakness in our planning – we relied too much on the walkie-talkies. That’s one thing I’ve learnt – don’t put too much trust in machines.’ P. 275

Kevin was sitting against an old woolpress that was up against the wall. Crouched beside him was Robyn, with one hand on his shoulder. Chris was standing on his other side, looking down at Corrie. Corrie was lying across Kevin’s lap. Her eyes were closed and her head was back and there was no colour in her face. As I stood there Kevin and Chris and Robyn all turned their faces towards me, but Corrie still didn’t open her eyes. I couldn’t move. It was as though I too had joined the tableau. Then Kevin said, ‘She’s been shot Ellie’. P.280

Tomorrow, When the war began chapter 21

Read through Chapter 21. Use the words in bold to fill in the blanks.

I scrambled back down the ladder. It seemed to have taken forever to get the rope out.

All that time I’d been oblivious of the thunder just centimetres above my head,

but now I noticed that it was starting to lessen. I could make out individual

hooves. I broke out in an instant sweat, found the loose end of the rope,

grabbed it and ran. I had petrol all over me, had been breathing petrol, and

felt very odd as a result, as though I was floating across the grass. But it

wasn’t a pleasant float, more the sort of floating that made me seasick. P.271

Instant, scrambled, oblivious, floating, breathing, individual, pleasant

Read through Chapter 20. Use the words in bold to fill in the blanks.

I was a bit nervous being paired with Fi, I must admit. There was no way I was ever

going to be a hero, but at least I was used to doing outdoors, practical things, and I

suppose that gives you a bit of confidence . P. 255

She gasped just one word: ‘Patrol’, and together we went over a low fence into

someone’s front garden. There was a huge old gum tree right in front of us. I was

so nervous that it seemed to be the only thing I could see. My eyes and mind focused

entirely on it; nothing else existed for me at that moment. I climbed it like a possum,

scratching my hands but not feeling any pain. Fi followed. I got about three metres up

before I heard voices from the corner, which slowed me down, made me quieter, more

cautious. I inched out along a branch to take a look. I didn’t know if getting up here

had been a mistake or not. I remembered Dad, one day when he’d put a big ugly patch

on a hole in the leaves that possums had made, saying ‘The human eye doesn’t look

above its own height’. At this moment in my life I sure hoped he was right. The trouble

was that if they did see us we’d be, not like possums up a tree, but like rats up a drainpipe.

There was no escape from here. P. 262

Tommrrow, When the war began chapter 19

Read through Chapter 19. Use the words in bold to fill in the blanks.

There were two armoured cars in the lead, followed by half a dozen jeeps, half a dozen trucks, then two more armoured cars. We also saw a second patrol ; a truck with a spotlight mounted on the roof of the cabin and a machine gun in the back. It wasn’t a very smart arrangement, because we could see it from a long way off, the light combing the bush, backwards and forwards. We had time to slide back into the scrub and watch from behind trees. I wouldn’t like to have been a soldier in that truck, because guerillas could have picked them off easily. Perhaps it showed that guerillas weren’t so active around here. But as I waited behind the tree for the truck to pass I was surprised and a little alarmed to realise how much I was starting to think like a soldier. ‘If we were up a tree with rifles,’ I thought, ‘and one person shot out the spotlight and the others went for the machine gunner ... Better still have one person out the front shooting through the windscreen to get the people in the cabin ...’ Satisfied with our ‘time spent in reconnaissance ’ we withdrew further into the bush to talk. Music research

For this research each song explain: who wrote and perform the song, what is the song about, your opinion of the song.

Song:

This is America-  by Childish Gambino. The song introduces the wider issue of gun violence in the United States, the high rate of mass shootings in the US, along with other social issues that are commonly suspected to have been results of historically widespread racism and discrimination experienced by native Americans.

I have a Dream - By Common, The song enforces the historical moment when Martin Luther King. Jr. Made the '' I have a Dream'' Speech to show what the people's crys and movement were about.

Changes - By Tupac. it was originally recorded in 1992 when Shakur was signed to Interscope Records. The rapper re-used many lines from other unreleased songs of his on the recording of “Changes” with plans to create another revised of the song at a later date.

Next time i may add more picture and text about it.

Tomorrow, When the war began chapter 18

Read through Chapter 18. Use the words in bold to fill in the blanks.

‘The way I see it, these are our choices , now that we know a bit more about the deal. One, we can sit tight and do nothing. And there’s nothing chicken about that. It’s got a lot to recommend it. We’re not trained for this stuff, and it’s important for ourselves, and for our families, and for that matter even our country , that we stay alive. Two, we can have a go at getting our families and maybe other people out of the Showground. That’s a tough one, probably way beyond our reach. I mean, we’ve got and shotguns but they’d be popguns compared to what these turkeys are using. Three, we can do something else to help the good guys. That’s us, I might add, in case anyone’s confused.’ He grinned at Robyn. ‘We could involve ourselves in some way that would help us win this war and get our country back. There’s other things we could do too of course, other options, like moving somewhere else, or surrendering, but they’re so remote I don’t think they’re worth discussing , although we will if anyone wants to of course. engish work

Important parts of this question are Describe and Explain.

Goal: Write a paragraph together describing a character and using a quote.

Ellie is an important character…

Leader, makes important decisions, brave, good ideas, respectful, she is the narrator

One of the important moments for Ellie is When she returns home to a different world. After a camping trip in ‘Hell’ Ellie and her friends arrive back to empty homes. She is scared and confused by the fact that everyone is gone. She becomes distraught when she realises that her dogs have been attacked.

  • Blowing up the soldiers - guilt, emotional trama,

  • Taking charge - leadership, bravery, cares about her friends

  • Mental breakdown - sad, aggravated, scared and worried - dealing with consequences

  • Questions the morality - thinking, processing

  • Returning to home - scared, confused, lost her innocence

  • Helps rescue Lee - compassionate,

  • She tells chris off for falling asleep during sentry duty.

This is a key moment because Ellie realises that there might be a war on. The impact of this moment is the realisation that something very serious has taken place.

This moment shows the reader that Ellie is understanding that something larger has begun. Ellie’s reaction makes the reader think about war and invasion and how we would react in similar circumstances.

  • Reaction to the pets dying, concerned because her parents would take care of the animals, parents have not planned this.

How does Ellie change from the beginning of the story to the end?

Discuss how each quote could be used?

  • “At that stage I still hadn’t come to terms with what had happened. That's not surprising. We knew so little. All we had were clues, guesses, surmises”pg 78-9

  • “For the first time I saw their faces; then I struck the match” pg 90

  • “It was hard for me to believe that I, plain old Ellie, nothing special about me, middle of the road in every way, had probably just killed three people” pg 95

  • “Although we’d worked out a route and agreed on it I decided I was no longer bound by majority vote: circumstances had changed.” p 143

  • “Demonic figures ran screaming from me, I felt skulls crush under my feet. Burning bodies stretched out their hands begging for mercy.” pg 163

  • “All I could think of to do was to trust to instinct. That was all I had really. Human laws, moral laws, religious laws, they all seemed artificial and basic, almost childlike.” (pg 217)

A quote that shows Ellie’s (trait) is…

Step One- For your Statement you need to state the key moment, character, challenge, idea you wish to discuss as part of the larger story.

Step Two- Then you need to describe the Example for the reader (remember they have not read the book so you need to give detail so they can follow your argument).

Step Three- Then you need to Explain the  importance or meaning of this event/challenge/idea/or character in relation to the story.

Step Four- Then you need to Explain the EFFECT  of this on you as a reader. - this requires a response from you - how it made you feel, why this challenged you, why this is important for others to know about.

Step Five- You can then link your ideas to your main argument, to another moment in the film or to the wider context. - reflect on the story as a whole.

Tomorrow, when the war began ( chapter 16/17)

Read through Chapter 16-17. Use the words in bold to fill in the blanks.

I too had blood on my hands, like the Hermit, and just as I couldn’t tell whether his actions were good or bad, so too I couldn’t tell what mine were. Had I killed out of love of my friends, as part of a noble crusade to rescue friends and family and keep our land free? Or had I killed because I valued my life above that of others? Would it be OK for me to kill a dozen others to keep myself alive? A hundred? A thousand? At what point did I condemn myself to Hell, if I hadn’t already done so? The Bible just said ‘Thou shalt not kill’, then told hundreds of stories of people killing each other and becoming heros , like David with Goliath. That didn’t help me much.

I didn’t feel like a criminal , but I didn’t feel like a hero either. P.216

condemn, blood, criminal, actions, dozen, valued, heroes, crusade

The people we’ve talked to say the soldiers are anxious to keep their noses clean.

They know that sooner or later the United Nations and the Red Cross Will be wandering around, and they don’t want to attract a lot of heat from them. They keep talking about a “clean” invasion . They figure that if there’s no talk of concentration camps and torture and rape and stuff, there’s less chance of countries like America getting involved.’ P.224

Science Experiment - Land Yacht

Science Experiment - Land Yacht

Aim: To make the fastest land yacht racer.
Equipment: Base trolley, bamboo stick, strings, tape, scissors, newspaper..
Method: Use every equipment needed... Boom!... Best land yacht racer is made.. We use the big leaf blower to make our land yacht move.. The closer the leaf blower, the faster the land yacht move, but if the leaf blower is too close to the yacht, the yacht will get knocked down or it'll break the yacht...

Results: We got first place on the first round, our was the furthest than the others... The distance was 10 metre, and the time was 10.10, so to know the speed of the yacht we divide 10 metre and 10.10s = 0.99 millimeter per second...

Jersey cotton -Sweatshirting

Jersey cotton -Sweatshirting

What is Sweatshirting

The thing that we are doing is sweatshirts. Sweatshirts are made or designed to absorb

sweat, so they keep you warm while cooling you down slowly. unless it’s a sweatshirt that

is pretty much good to go!

This material is washable

stretchy

Quick to dry

This is made from a fine gauge yarn, jersey from cotton but can also be made from

synthetic fibers(The compounds that are used to make these fibers come from raw materials

such as petroleum-based chemicals or petrochemicals ).

For the textile i been catting the material that i need to make the hoodie.

Marshmallow catapult shooter

Aim: To make a marshmallow shooter and work out what forces are acting on it.

Equipment: Paper cup ,scissors, balloon marshmallow.

Method:

  1.  Cut out the bottom of the cup.
  2. Cut off the neck of the balloon.
  3. Stretch the open end of the balloon over the bottom of the cup.
  4. Place marshmallow in the cup.
  5. Pull balloon back to fire marshmallow.
Results:

Making a Plastic Cup Marshmallow Shooter | ThriftyFun

Discussion:

- when the marshmallow was in the cup all the forces( thrust, friction, gravity and support) were even as it wasn't moving.
- as soon as it leaves the cup then the thrust force was greater as it speed up.
 Conclusion:  it works.
Should you change anything? no
