How are costume used to enhance the story English

Brainstorm:
What happening- - reaping scene  -  2 tributes selected to complete in the Hunger games.
- Best dressed 
Describe Costumes - Light colour, neutral tones, old fashioned, simple 
-Boys - dross shirts, pants or shorts.
- Girls - hair tidy, dresses or skirts. 
- colour - cold, clean , faded - washed and worn a lot.
- older clothes mended 
Effect on viewer -think they poor - because clothes are outdated.
- Peacekeepers / Effie in new clean outfits 
- think it is a bad living - emotions, all the colour has been clarned 
Director Purpose - show the comparison / juxtaposition of the district t the capital 
- Show theme 'Rich vs Poor because district doesn't have access 
to resources like new clothing.
Other Techniques - Make-up -style = status , Effie eye lashes are long t pink and her face is white. The district has no make- up no access or need for it. 


What happening- In the Capitol, Katniss & Peeta just getting off the train, have never been there before.
Describe Costumes- Bright, colourful, neon, extravagant, vibrant oversized.
- Look expensive and more fancy than casual.
-Over  the top - Excessive, more than needed to be practical.
- Head pieces to match , wigs 
- Both genders over the top outfits/ wigs/ make-up 
Effect on viewer think feel - Things they are rich /greed 
- Fashion is shocking / scary to viewer - in the face.
-Show us how shocking/ different things are for katniss & Peeta.
Director Purpose- Again show us theme Rich vs poor - the people in capitol live in extreme luxury compared to the poverty of district.
-People in the capitol have everything.
Other techniques - make-up over the top- caked on so we know they have lots. Men / Women both wear it.
-Setting- concrete , metal, glass, clean , crisp , futuristic technologically advanced.


What happening- in the arena of the hunger games.
Describe costumes -Practical - suitable for fighting - Jacket, boots shirt,long pants 
- Colour that will match surroundings - help them hide.
- Tell us about the arena climate.
- Not going for as not much.
Effect on the viewer think feel- Feel like they are dressed for war/ hunting - all dressed same uniform 
- All look same-every has the same advantage.
- Makes us less emotionally attached to individuals.
Director Purpose theme - Rich vs poor -everyone is tonally  equal so personal skills become important 
-Struggle for power - Tribute the power of the capitol, they have no freedom/ free will at this point 



In the reaping scene costume is used effectively to show the theme 'rich vs poor; for example, the capital
tributes are dressed in formal shirts, skirts and trousers. Their clothes are well-worn, weathered and dull. This make us understand the people in District 12 are poor because their best clothes are old and faded compared to the Capitol representative Effie Trinket. this is done to show the juxtaposition bet between 
the extreme wealth of the Capitol and the poverty of those in District 12.this worked well with the use of make up as show by Effie. She has lots of makeup on including long pink eyelashes, an extremely white foundation  and pink and gold lips . This tell the viewer that she is wealthy because she can afford extravagant make-up when those in the district can barely afford clothes. This aspect can be compared to the scene where the the tributes arrive off the train in the Capitol.Here we see luxury and excess wealth in the costumes of the capitol citizens compared to the rags worn by peeta and katniss.

METAL AND ACID

TESTING FOR HYDROGEN GAS 

AIM: TO SHOW THAT HYDROGEN GAS IS PRODUCED WHEN A METAL REACT WITH ACID.
EQUIPMENT: A TEST TUBE, A BOILING TUBE, BUNSEN BURNER , WOODEN SPLINT , A BOTTLE OF ACID, A PIECE OF METAL, SAFETY GLASSES.
METHOD:
  1. LIGHT YOUR BUNSEN BURNER.
  2. ADD YOU SAMPLE OF METAL TO YOUR TEST TUBE. ADD 2 ML OF ACID.
  3. CAREFULLY INVERT THE BOILING TUBE ABOVE THE TEST TUBE CONTAINING THE METAL AND ACID ( AS SHOWN IN THE DIAGRAM BELOW.
OBSERVATIONS: MAGNESIUM HYDROCHLORIDE ACID MAKE A BUBBLE AND PUT FIRE INSIDE WILL MAKE SOUND.

WHEN A METAL REACT WITH AN ACID, THE SAME TYPES OF PRODUCTS ARE ALWAYS FORMED.

Science: Making salts

Making Salts 

Aim: To produce copper sulfate by reacting copper with an acid.
Equipment: Copper oxide powder, dilute (0.5 mol L-1)sulfuric acid,50 ml measuring cylinder, two 100 ml beakers, Bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, funnel, filter paper, Thermometer, Spatula, evaporating basin, stirring rod.
Method:

  1. Add 20 ml of sulfuric acid to a 100 ml beakers. heat the acid until it reaches 70℃. Turn off your Bunsen burner.
  2. Once heated, use a spatula to add pea-sized portions of copper oxide to the beaker. Stir the mixture for 30 seconds.
  3. Repeat step 2 until no more will dissolve. Allow the beaker to cool.
  4. Fold the filter paper and place in the fennel. Place the filter funnel into the seconds beaker.
  5. Make sure the beaker is cool enough to hold at the top. The contents should still be hot. you may need your teacher to complete this step.
  6. Gently swirl the contents of the beakers to mix, and then pour into the filter paper in the funnel. Allow to filter through.
  7. Rinse the beaker you used to heat the mixture previously, and place it back on top of your tripod filled with 50-60 ml of water.
  8. Place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker and carefully pour some of the solution from the beaker into the evaporating basin.
  9. Gently heat the beaker until solution in the evaporating basin has reduced by half.
  10. Leave the evaporating basin to cool. Once cool, move the evaporating basin to a warn place where it will not be disturbed(i.e a window-sill) and observe over the next few days. Blue copper sulfate crystals should form.
Observation: When we were mixing the pea-sized in sulfuric acid it dissolve it and turn to black and when we put it on beaker and it turn to blue.

Copper oxide + Sulfuric acid → Copper fulfate + water.

Science - Testing pH

Testing pH 

Aim: To test the pH of a range of household chemicals.
Method:
  1. Add a few drops of each chemical to a spot on your spotting tile. if a substance is solid or powdered you will need to mix it with a few drops of water before testing it.  
  2. Test the chemical with litmus papers.
  3. Test each chemical with a few drops of Universal indicator.
